Mobile Friendly CO

Postby Akinimod on 25 Jun 2009, 09:01

I know this won't happen but I'm getting the idea out there anyway.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who jumps on CO from my mobile and I was thinking it would be a good idea to have a mobile friendly CO that we can access when connecting from mobiles. Most websites I visit have it (hotmail, twitter, facebook, ebay etc) and i'm not sure how it's done but i do know that it would help reduce my mobile bill a whole lot.

Like I said, I doubt it will happen but it's a good idea.
It's not that I'm not a people person. I'm just not a stupid people person.

It's a good idea Akinimod but there's probably no point having a moble friendly CO when most people don't use CO that often anyway.

It'd be good if It did happen though. BUt like you said I really don't think it's possible in the near future.

Err hi. I'm not sure if you noticed the date, but I posted this almost a year ago. Just like all the other threads I've noticed you have posted in (or much much older) because I keep getting email notifications. Just FYI, no point in replying to people who haven't logged on in 3 years. They're not coming back adn they won't read your posts and it's called "postpadding"... something that is (or was) frowned upon here at CO. Perhaps read the rules?

And obviously this was posted when CO was a big happy family and not when it had died down to 2 or 3 posters so yeah, really no need to reply to such things.

Where are these rules because I've never came across something that is called postpadding. I don't see why I'm not allowed to reply to posts that are a year or two old. There are actually not a lot of new threads on this site so I have really got no choice but to reply to the other one's.

It's not so much that you're not allowed to, it's that if you're not actually bringing any new information or a new angle, etc, to a topic, you're not actually contributing anything to it at all and hence replying is pointless because you're not "resurrecting" the topic as it's sometimes called. You're just "bumping" the topic (posting to make it appear in the new posts list, and higher in its subforum) for no reason at all. It looks like you're just trying to increase your post count, which is bad forum etiquette.

It's especially not good for a quiet place like CO, when members get topic reply notifications and come back to see something pointless, they're less likely to come back when they get notifications (instead ignoring them completely), so when someone does post something relevant to a topic they've participated in in the past they won't notice. It's important that everything is relevant if we want to keep the members we have and bring back former regulars when topics they've started or participated in are resurrected.

You don't have to post anything, there's no rule saying you have to post with a certain regularity in order to be a member of CO. Alternatively, you can start new topics to stimulate NEW discussion.

Where are these rules

In Isobelle's Landing. It's called "CO: A User's Manual" so most people read it when they first join.
The part Akinimod is referring to is this:

We have posting standards at Carmody-Online which are quite simple to meet: post intelligently. We have a dim view of spamming/post-padding at Carmody-Online — pointless posts that do not contribute to the progress of the topic will be deleted without notice. Woe betide those who think they can increase their post count through spam/post-padding.
Forecast for tomorrow: A few sprinkles of genius with a chance of doom!

You lied and said I never had any goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl, Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

Thanks for that explanation, Whitestarr. [mrgreen] I'll try not to reply to older threads in the future.
